Atlantis & Sunita Williams: Makes a SAFE Landing in California

After enormous hurdles and hours in the sky trying to safely land the Atlantis, the astronauts finally managed to do so at the Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert, California. Sunita ‘Suni’ Williams and shuttle commander Rick Sturckow were amongst the seven astronauts who landed safely.

Suni Williams was happy to be back on Earth and was heard saying that she is looking forward to a slice of pizza and walking on the beach with her husband and dog Gorby. But she was sad to leave the International Space Station. She explained, “When you’ve been somewhere for six months, it becomes your home and it’s hard to leave.” Sunita Willams has now set an endurance record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman at 195 days.

Rick Sturckow, while standing on the landing strip, remarked, “It’s just great to be back on planet Earth. There were a lot of challenges on this mission and they were all dramatic. All the solutions worked well.” As of now, the Atlantis’ seven astronauts prepared to return to Houston from California to meet their families and friends. The California landing will cost NASA $1.7 million as Atlantis will have to be transported back to Florida atop a modified jumbo jet.

Authorities at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) breathed a sigh of relief after the landing. The Atlantis flight was the first one in the year by NASA. Until now, 2007 was a year they would have liked to forget. However, the successful space shuttle journey to the ISS and back would have given a boost to NASA’s morale.

NASA is planning to send more shuttle missions this year. They hope to retire the space shuttles by 2010 but plan to carry out many missions before that. Most of them are destined for the International Space Station but some of them are for the ailing Hubble Space Telescope.

Happy Father's Day to Our Dear, Precious Dads

One of the most influential and enduring assets a child can have is a father who takes his paternal role seriously - and with delight. He lives the kind of life his kids are proud of - the way he hopes they will grow up and live as adults.

Whether a doctor, letter carrier or insurance man, this father regards the title "dad" as his most important and inspiring position in life. He gives his children his unconditional love and support, and a green light to them embracing their individuality. He infuses in them deep passion for hard work, laughter and knowledge. He helps them know right from wrong, and then the strength to make wise choices based on that fundamental barometer. He also guides them toward being solid, altruistic stewards of the Earth and actively involved in helping mankind.

In life's family fabric, these "grand" dads help create tapestries of fulfillment for their offspring - and generations beyond.

I was fortunate to have had a dad like this, and to have borne my children by a man who also exemplified those qualities.

So please have respect for your loving DAD and ENJOY this year's Father's Day with your Dad and Send gifts to your Dad with http://www.giftsallindia.com

Happy Father's Day to all you out there from ME.

Most People Swimming one length in a 24 hour Relay

New Guinness World Record for Most People Swimming one length in a 24 hour Relay is set in Mallorca!

Previous Portuguese record of 2,889 is beaten in Palma.
---------------------------------------------------------

Most People Swimming one length in a 24 hour Relay.

Glamorous Palma de Mallorca was the location for a 24 hour attempt at breaking the record for most people swimming lengths in a relay. It was organised by the charity ‘Projecte Home Balears’ which is a large and successful organisation that helps people with drug-related problems rehabilitate their lives.

The charity chose this record as it would involve a huge range of people of all ages and backgrounds reflecting the variety of people that their charity helps. The attempt was at the large pool next to the Real Mallorca football stadium. The guidelines stated that the attempt must be in strict relay form, only one length at a time from each participant, this of course makes it a lot harder to get a huge total and meant that the event had to truly be over 24 hours. A strong total of 2,889 had already been set in Portugal in 2005.

The event was from 7pm to 7pm and by the time I arrived in Mallorca at Midnight they were easily over 1,500. They had already had a 4 year old and an 82 year old swim as well as several disabled people. At 5am there were to be fifty soldiers from the local army base swimming – this appeared to interest a lot of female attention at this ridiculous time in the morning ! As I arrived at the pool at 10.30am the total had got over 2,000 and it was clear by the crowds patiently queuing that the record should be broken well before 7pm. The monitoring and counting of each length was very strictly organised by the Mallorcan Swimming federation which helped enormously.

The exciting moment came at 4.07pm when a small boy jumped in to go for the 2,890th record breaking length. The crowd cheered him all the way and he was a superstar for the day as TV crews and photographers went to photograph him. I managed to get the certificate into his soggy hands before the cameras started rolling! The attempt continued right up until 7pm with a tiny little boy running down to the start at 6.56pm to get the very last length in which was great fun for the crowd (although he shouldn’t have been running by the pool of course!). He finished and we posed for lots of pictures and TV interviews and the world record belonged to Palma.

The event was tremendously well organised by the fantastic people at Projecte Home Balears. Bartholomew, Ulla, Paco and Mercedes all looked after me fantastically well and the swimming federation judged the event superbly. It was a great event that was full of genuine enthusiasm from all sorts of people that showed again that the publicity that Guinness World Records brings can make a very positive contribution to a very good cause.

Amazing: Finding taste-buddies just a click away!

Internet, which for years now has helped link people through e-mails, chat rooms and matrimonial services, will now enable those with similar tastes to come together and share their gourmet preference.

Future Today Inc, a new media company founded and run by an Indian origin Columbia University graduate Alok Ranjan, has launched a new online video community, iFood.tv aimed at bringing together food lovers of the world to a single platform.

The formal launch of the community follows a four-month experiment with a Beta edition of iFood.tv, which incidentally received most of the traffic from the US, India, Canada and the UK.

The service would help people find friends with similar eating habits--such as those who prefer 'gulab jamun' over 'chaats'.

"Food is a common thread which binds people across the globe. More individuals want to discuss their food habits or get cooking tips by leveraging the web as a medium," Future Today CEO Alok Ranjan said in a statement announcing the launch of the website.

With a mission to 'Serve food lovers simply' this website is a one-stop platform for food-related information, entertainment and social networking, the company said.

"Food is one of the most distinguishing aspects of the Indian culture and we have received extremely enthusiastic response from foodies in India," Ranjan said.

Going forward, iFood.tv will successfully address the need for a single food television network and personal food community in India, he added.
